Thursday Giveaway: Ideas for Parents by Mark Matlock and Christopher Lyon

Mark Matlock, parenting, Youth Specialties, YSBecause Father’s Day is just around the corner I thought it would be appropriate to feature a book in honor of our “dear old dads.” This week we’re giving away two copies of Ideas for Parents: A Collection of Tips, Insights, and Activities for Real-World Parenting by Mark Matlock and Christopher Lyon.

Mark Matlock is the director of Youth Specialties and in addition to being in youth ministry for decades, he’s the parent of a couple of teenagers too. Christopher Lyon is a pastor, father, writer, and editor. Together they’ve crafted a helpful, accessible book that is chock full of ideas for how parents can interact with their kids in ways that promote the gospel, instill wisdom, and create deeper connections between parent and child.

My Bible study group is made up of other guys my age who have young kids. Together we read Matlock’s previous parenting book, Raising Wise Childrenand really enjoyed it. It was a book that helped us understand what the Bible teaches about wisdom and gave us good ideas on how to pass on a love for the wisdom of God to our kids. I expect no less from Ideas for Parents.

This is a book that children’s ministry leaders and youth pastors should be aware of too. It’s the type of product that they can recommend to parents in their church who come to them with questions like, “What do I do if my child won’t friend me on Facebook?” “How do I find out about the music my child listens to without alienating them?” “Do you have any ideas on teaching memory verses to kids?” And a myriad of other questions…

To enter today’s giveaway tell us something that you love about your dad. Either your earthly dad, or your heavenly father.

I’ll go first: I love that my dad instilled in me a passion for reading, and a penchant for unique words. Because of him I knew what words like “lugubrious” and “superfluous” meant at an early age and because of him I hardly travel anywhere without a book in my hand.

Two winners will be chosen randomly on Friday. The more you comment, the greater chance you have of winning.

Happy (early) Father’s Day!
