There are numerous Psalms that could be prayed today in light of the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. The verses I found were these. I hope they are a blessing to you today as you remember God’s sovereignty and blessing, Psalm 9:7-12: (NIV)
7 The LORD reigns forever;
he has established his throne for judgment.
8 He will judge the world in righteousness;
he will govern the peoples with justice.
9 The LORD is a refuge for the oppressed,
a stronghold in times of trouble.
10 Those who know your name will trust in you,
for you, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek you.
11 Sing praises to the LORD, enthroned in Zion;
proclaim among the nations what he has done.
12 For he who avenges blood remembers;
he does not ignore the cry of the afflicted.
In The Essential Bible Companion to the Psalms the authors list the theme of this Psalm as being:
God has defeated our enemies in the past, so we can implore him to deliver us again and trust that he will do justice. (p. 45, Webster & Beach)
Trusting in God to do justice is an encouragement to me on 9/11. It’s easy to feel like justice has not yet been served to those who attacked the U.S. It’s also easy to feel powerless to do anything about it. But in praying this Psalm I can praise God because “The LORD reigns forever,” and because “he will judge the world in righteousness.”
